FireFox 3.6 doesn’t work with Instant Play

22 Jan, 2010

Seems we have bigger issues than usual getting Instant Play to work with FireFox 3.6.  We don’t understand what is wrong, it seems as though something quite fundamental has changed and we can’t identify the problem.  Please DON’T open any helpdesk tickets on this issue as we already have a bigger backlog than usual due to staff shortages :(

Will Firefox 3.5 work with Instant Play for GM8? This is very sad, if no.

    Simple solution:

USE INTERNET EXPLORER INSTEAD OF FIREFOX.

No! Don’t use IE! Use any browser but that incompatible and buggy IE.

I’m sure you’ll eventually get to the bottom of it (browsers are getting pretty tight with their security).
Thanks for putting the GM7 download back up by the way! :) Many people will appreciate that! :)

So… I´m to assume Instant Play DOES work now, with the exception of FireFox 3.6?

If so, an announcement would´ve been nice.

    @davve941018:

Internet Explorer is a browser made only for Windows. Too many things are made usable by only IE, and people should really start making things usable by every browser. And IE literally sucks. It’s buggy, slow, and has too much security thingy that slows down the browsing.
But it’s ok to use it if you like it.

    I prefer Chrome.
Not because it’s better, it just isn’t made for only Windows.

Well, one idea. The “Play Now” button is now an image. I am pretty sure that you couldn’t right click on it on Firefox 3.5.

Most peoples opinions of IE are based on older (and much crappier) versions or they have a bunch of add-ons that got installed alongside other programs that slow IE down. It’s actually a good and fast browser now.

When I try to upload an instant play game, once it uploads the game file it crashes my Internet Explorer, is this happening to every one? squiggy, I have had it happen once in a while.

to all the people saying use IE… NO, IE may have improved but even the latest version is still bad, think this way – most people use IE what are virus programmers going to do? program though the holes in IE, and also IE isn’t updated very often to fix these security holes -__- , and anyways I had 3.6 since Beta and had this problem so no new news for me, I just used 3.5 and it worked.

I’ve never used YYG’s instand play because it sucks and it’s only in IE or FireFox which I don’t use and don’t want to use. It would be so much better if YYG made a Java applet to automatically download and run the games. GMArcade.com has this and it works smooth in any browser no matter what.

Most of us can agree that IE is not the way to go. Even if it does work with InstantPlay, that doesn’t automatically make it more compatible in every way. Every browser is going to be incompatible with something.

Chrome and Firefox are both great browsers. Chrome seems to be slightly faster but Firefox has more functionality and seemingly more compatibility.

Safari and Opera are other good alternatives, Safari is ‘apparently’ the fastest browser, but I would assume that’s only if you’re running it in Mac OSX. Opera has trailed behind a bit but has a lovely design.

I don’t think having InstantPlay down is such an urgent problem. Downloading a Game just takes a few more clicks.

Opera is up with the latest, it’s amazing how much is stolen by FireFox. (Dupe tabs etc)

Opera is far better in every way, supporting slower connections with turbo (56k). Uses a webservers max compression.

Opera has form auto-fill which I haven’t seen in others.

Although Chrome has got the simplest design (very similar to Safari the tabs) and is fast.

Safari does not display pages very well and is ugly. xD

Opera – less ram, super fast in W7, only modern browser that works in 95″, efficient, cool quick tab view, lock tabs, download tab. And so on..

    I love Browser Wars! =D
FireFox seems to do everything I want it to do. I believe that when Chrome was released its Javascript engine got all the attention of “being faster than Firefox,” but FireFox 3.5 and 3.6 are faster than Chrome in every aspect. Not to mention how much of a memory whore Chrome is, I’m assuming it’s because it has a process for each tab. My other reason for not using Chrome is its horrendous lack of features.
Modern versions of Internet Explorer have competeable features to the other browsers on the market, but I’m weary of the security vulnerabilities and how slow Microsoft is to fix them. Oh, and it’s horrible at keeping up with web standards.
I’ve tried Opera and I’m sure that it’s better than FireFox in most regards, but it just seems like FF’s ugly sister. FireFox does everything I need my browser to do, and I’m gonna stick with that.
Safari is just out of the question for me: Security vulnerabilities and it’s ugly. Even if I was on a Mac I’d use FireFox instead. ):

    RE: Firefox 3.6

From what I’ve been hearing, there’s alot that’s been changed in 3.6. I’ve seen other conflicts noted, such as with plugins Joomla based websites. What I’ve read:

“enhancements to TraceMonkey, Mozilla’s JavaScript-rendering engine.”

“new version of Gecko, Firefox’s core rendering engine”

So… yeah, that’s my two cents.

You really need to build one for google chrome, if thats possible. I love instant play but google chrome runs much faster than firefox on my computer. Firefox lags out alot when I’m trying to run instant play and then just freezes and gives me an error message. IE does the same thing, but IE is IE, it sucks. If you guys could build instant play for google chrome, I would be on YoYoGames much more than I am recenetly because I am not playing as many games as I used to.

  35. Sypran Says:

^are you on chrome? that is what happens on chrome.

but yeah Hope you can fix this soon its slightly annoying to download every game in existence then later to delete them. Is there any other method to making it possible?
also why do some people dislike instant play? I find it useful if I wanna test out a game before I fully download it…

  36. PlasticineGuy Says:
